BRIEF REVIEW

Daniel Eduardo López Roca has spent most of his life working in the world of gastronomy. Holding a Masters degree in Systemic Family Therapy, a career in Social Psychology was relatively short lived. His interests lay elsewhere. At age thirty, he trained as a Chef and worked in that profession for nearly twenty years.
In 1994-95 his chefing took him to Antarctica aboard the Almirante Irizar Ice-Breaker. Apart from Buenos Aires and other Argentine cities, he worked as a practicing Chef de Cuisine in Brasil, Switzerland and Italy. As a consequence, in addition to English and his native Spanish, he converses fluently in Italian and Portugese. Towards the end of his chefing career, he was the lecturer in International Cooking at IBAHRS Cooking School, Buenos Aires.
Wine was always Daniel’s other great interest. His restaurant experience brought him into close contact with wine and, in 1992, in the same way he had formalised his interest in food with professional training, he decided to do something about formalising his knowledge of and education in wine. There followed a series of specialised courses in viticulture and oenology.
First, in 1992, a Wine Tasting Course at Asociación Vitivinícola Argentina. In 1995, a more ambitious Wine Making Course at University of Buenos Aires Agronomics – Oenology. In 2,000, he completed the Winemaking Extension Course at University of California, Davis. Next, in 2002, he studied Viticulture at INTA (National Institute of Agricultural Technology) Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Then, in 2004, he returned to INTA at Luján de Cuyo, undertaking an advanced Wine Tasting Course under Dr Dominique Delteil, head of the Microbiology Department, Institut Coopératif du Vin (ICV), Montpellier, France.

In 1995, not a great deal was known about the Internet and its potential to become the "information highway" that it is today.
Daniel Roca recognised that potential when he created www.argentinewines.com and, in yet another successful career move, he has established himself as the electronic media guru of South America. Apart from his own highly informative wine web domain, along the way, his knowledge of gastronomy led him into wine and food journalism, writing, reporting and presenting for various media, including VinotecaVirtual, the "Argentine Wines Radio Show" on FM 95.5 - Radio San Isidro Labrador, and the "Luces Vivo Buenos Aires" Radio Show on Radio Ciudad FM-1110.
In 1997 he assisted author Alan Young with "Wine Routes of Argentina" the first major literary work on the modern day Argentine wine industry.
