USER'S GUIDE

REFERENCES

One of our purposes when preparing this On-line Bible was to make its study more dynamic, so that anyone could make profit of the more than 6,000 references that the Holy Book contains. This is particularly useful to increase the information on any subject we would want to research, especially in the case of those who prepare sermons or who just want to deepen their studies. In order to achieve this, we made use of the link system as in the following example:

22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

If you point the cursor on the small icon (you can try it on this example), a pop up will appear showing the preview screen of the verses corresponding to the link. If you click on that image, you will be directed, as in the previous version, to the beginning of the chapter where the reference is included.

On the other hand, in the following example which relates to the subtitle that precedes St. Matthews Chapter 8, verse 1, you can see the links (in blue color) to the other books that narrate the same episode of the leper’s healing; in this case, referring to Mark’s and Saint Luke’s Gospels.

Chapter 8

Cleansing a Leper

(Mark 1. 40-45; Luke 5. 12-16)

If you read the three passages, you will see that there are not so many differences among them. However, there is something that neither Matthew nor Luke narrated, but Mark did narrate the fact that determined that Jesus could not easily enter the cities to preach. This is one example of the advantages of the links: the particular way in which each author narrates the episode enlarges our present view about their own experience and how they wanted to express it.

EXCEPTIONS

There are some links that, because of their extension, do not offer a preview window; when the size of the passage is larger than the preview window, a message to explain this situation will pop up.

TABLE OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES

An icon corresponding to the Table of Weights and Measures, as used in The Bible, will be found. In the following example (Luke 12:6), you can see it by pointing the mouse on the image and, then, a small window will open. If you click on the image, the table will display in full screen mode.

12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
12:7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

TYPES OF REFERENCES

You will find the following types of references:

Psalm. 23. 1

This is the simplest reference, since it relates to a single verse: the first verse of Chapter 23 of Psalms.

Acts 12. 10, 17

In this case, the passages to read are Acts Chapter 12, Verse 10 y Verse 17.

Mark 1. 40-45

Here, the passage starts at Verse 40 and ends in Verse 45 (included) of St. Mark, Chapter 1.

Genesis 29. 31--35. 38

Unlike the previous text, notice the presence of two hyphens to indicate that the passage starts at Chapter 29, Versicle 31 and extends to Chapter 35, Versicle 18 of the Genesis Book.

Psalm 52 (Title)

It refers to the title of the corresponding Psalm.

CLARIFICATION ON THE LARGEST BOOKS

Given the extension of some books and in order to avoid long downloads, these books were divided into 2, 3 or 4 books, which can be easily identified since their titles are followed by the chapters included in each of them.

We hope that this online version of the Holy Bible will be useful for every one who visits it.

Sincerely,

Fernando Vargas & Carlos Ceraolo
