Propellerhead Software announces Reason 6 and debuts Reason Essentials

Propellerhead Software has announced Reason
6, a major update to their flagship music
software. At the same time Propellerhead debuts Reason
Essentials, the successor to Record,
that packs all the recording, editing, effects, instruments,
mixing and mastering necessary to sound great in a streamlined
package. Now all Reason products have complete audio recording
and editing.
New in Reason 6
Combining all the features from Record, Reason version 6 adds
audio recording and editing, along with Propellerhead's mixing
console with modeled EQ and dynamics on every channel,
multiple parallel racks, Line 6 amp models, new effect devices
plus additional features.
New creative effects designed for inserting directly into
instruments and tracks include: Pulveriser,
sound crushing effect with crunchy compression, dirty
distortion and flexible modulation; The Echo,
advanced stereo echo with modern delay and analog tape echo
emulation: and Alligator, a three band
pattern gate for complex rhythmic texturing. Interface
enhancements, high definition audio transpose and true 64-bit
compatibility highlight other new feature improvements.
Reason Essentials
Built for independent minded musicians, Reason Essentials has
"the feel of a million dollar recording studio with the
streamlined simplicity of a tape deck". Distilled from
the core of Reason, Reason Essentials contains a great
selection of instruments and effects in a virtual rack that
builds itself, or can be infinitely customized—drum machine,
loop player, sampler, synths, reverb, delay, distortion,
mastering effects and more. For guitar players, the built-in
virtual guitar and bass PODs from Line 6 bring a wide range of
top quality guitar amps, cabinets and effects. The intuitive
audio and MIDI sequencer makes recording and arranging music a
breeze. Users never have to worry about track counts, latency
issues or adding that extra reverb or effect. With an easy to
grasp interface, it won't get in the way of ideas and will
inspire users to make more music.

Reason is a virtual studio rack with all
the tools and instruments you need to turn your ideas into
music.
Synthesizers, samplers, drum machine, REX file loop player,
mastering tools, mixer, vocoder, effects, pattern sequencer
and more. As many of each as your computer can handle. Reason
is an all-in-one music production environment, complete with
its own realtime sequencer.
Although easy to learn and use, Reason is a flexible music
system - a system that can be just as complex and advanced as
you make it, featuring numerous tools such as the MClass
mastering suite, the Combinator device, and
the powerful Thor synth.
Choose a synth, a drum machine, a loop player or any device
from the Create menu, and it will instantly appear in your
rack, logically patched into the signal chain. If you need
more machines than you have mixer channels, just create
another mixer.
Each unit in Reason's virtual rack is edited from its own
on-screen front panel. All the sliders, knobs, buttons and
functions are right in front of you, ready to be tweaked,
turned and twisted in absolute real-time. And all your front
panel actions - filter adjustments, pitch bending, gain riding
or panning - can be recorded and automated in the Reason
sequencer.
A single keypress will turn Reason's rack around to reveal
"patch cord heaven". Most audio connections are made
automatically. When a new device is created, it appears
immediately below the currently selected device, and Reason
patches it into the system in the most logical way. Repatch by
dragging the patch cord plug to the desired connector, or just
make a pop-up menu choice. Most devices have one or more
parameters controlled by Gate and/or CV. And all instrument
devices have several Gate or CV output options. Combine this
with easy, transparent patching, and you have connection power
approaching that of a fully modular synth.
