Gladiator Stories

Julia's Journal

Boticelli's Birth of Venus, a painting that helped inspire Julia's image.

Julia's Journal started as a development of Maximus' Story, The Gladiator Prequel, Susan Spicer's magnificent novel about General Maximus Decimus Meridius' pre-Gladiator life and adventures. Originally a minor character, Julia's intense personality and relationship with Maximus caught the attention of many readers and also that of Hebe Blanco, then Maximus' Story's Spanish translator, who developed the first part of her tale as a companion to the last eleven chapters' of Susan's celebrated book.

An instant success among Maximus' Story's vast readership, Julia returned in Susan Spicer's second novel - Glaucus' Story, The Gladiator Sequel - staged fifteen years after Maximus' death, and then in Julia's Journal, Part II, the novel that completes the saga known as Gladiator Stories.
